Shipping Methods (RoRo vs Container)
RoRo, shared container, sole-use 20ft and 40ft — when each method wins.
What is RoRo shipping?
Roll-on Roll-off — your car is driven onto a purpose-built RoRo vessel at the UK port, parked on a vehicle deck, secured for the voyage and driven off at destination. Cheapest and fastest for running standard vehicles.
What is shared container shipping?
Your car shares a 40ft container with other UK-origin vehicles bound for the same destination. The value sweet-spot for a single car under £40k. Slightly slower than RoRo but more secure.
What is sole-use container?
You hire the entire 20ft or 40ft container. Right for classics, supercars, EVs, non-runners or shipments with personal effects. Maximum security and flexibility.
Can I ship a non-runner?
Yes — by sole-use or shared container with winch loading. RoRo requires a running, driveable vehicle with working brakes, ignition and fuel.
Which method is cheapest?
RoRo on most lanes for a single running car. Shared container often wins on UK–East Africa and UK–Middle East when capacity tightens. Our quote shows all three side-by-side.
Can I put personal effects in the car?
Not in RoRo — strict no-effects rule enforced at port. In container shipping, yes — both inside the car and around it inside the container, with a packing list for customs.
