Kenya remains a strong destination for right-hand-drive UK imports, but clearance at Mombasa is paperwork-heavy and the eight-year age limit is strictly enforced. Here is the up-to-date process.
Pre-shipment requirements
Before the car leaves the UK, an Import Declaration Form (IDF) must be lodged with KRA and a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) certificate issued by an approved inspection body. The car must be RHD, no older than eight years from year of manufacture.
On arrival
After offload at Mombasa, the clearing agent files the entry, KRA assesses duty (25% import duty, 20% excise, 16% VAT, 2.25% IDF, 2% RDL all compounding), KEBS inspects, and once paid the car is released for road registration.
