RoRo is the most cost-effective way to move a car internationally, but the loading window is short and unforgiving. Cars that arrive at the port unprepared get rejected or attract delay fees. Use this checklist before you drop the keys.
The 10-point checklist
Run through each item the day before drop-off:
- Wash the car inside and out — customs and inspection rely on clean panels and clean wheel arches
- Quarter tank of fuel — not less, not more
- Disable the alarm completely (immobilisers are fine)
- Confirm battery health and remove dash-cam hardwire kits
- All fluids topped up; no leaks under the car
- Tyres at correct pressure, including the spare
- Two sets of keys handed over with the V5C
- Roof racks, bike racks and aerial removed or folded
- Personal effects fully removed (RoRo lines do not allow them)
- Take 30+ dated photos from every angle as pre-shipping evidence
